Encore FELLOWSHIP
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Workshops
Over the course of the fellowship, fellows come together for quarterly workshops that are an extended in depth, professional development focused on the three pillars of authentic and impactful leadership, culturally responsive pedagogy, and systems impact.
Community of Practice
Over the course of both fellowship years, fellows will come together four times for small group communities of practice composed of 3-5 fellows to continue to build on the learning from each workshop, build community, and discuss topics pertaining to the three pillars of fellowship programming. This time will also be spent developing, practicing, and applying the necessary skills to build coalitions and create systems impact.
Coaching
For fellows’ ongoing development, each fellow will work with a coach who is an experienced administrator. With their coach, each fellow will start the year with a beginning of the year conversation to lay the foundation for their work together over the next two years and identify goals for their development. They will engage in cycles of coaching that will be tailored based on the development goals you set together. You will also be able to rely on your coach as a thought-partner and advisor.
Systems Impact Experiences
In order to gain more proximity to and understanding of the systems that we live and work within, each fellow will choose and engage in an experience or activity from our new systems impact menu each quarter. Activities and experiences are categorized in one of four areas - Detroit, Your School Community, Detroit Education Landscape, & Education Policy & Politics. Fellows will select a relevant activity based on their experience in the city of Detroit in order to gain a deeper understanding of the systems in which they live, work, and exist.
Leadership 360
Fellows will participate in a Leadership 360 assessment in which each fellow will reflect on their own leadership by completing a self-assessment and also soliciting feedback from 15-20 others. Mentors will work with fellows to use this assessment to identify leadership strengths and areas of opportunity, and create a development plan that will support fellows in leading through their strengths and growing into their areas of opportunity.
Networking Events
Networking events are an opportunity to more deeply connect to fellows in your cohort and other members of the TFA Detroit network and learn alongside one another. Most of these events are optional for fellows, and examples include socials and happy hours, policy series events, our annual holiday party, summit, and more!
